Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Today is April 24.

On this day, we bow in reverence before the memory of the holy martyrs of the Armenian Genocide. We feel the pain, suffering, and loss endured by our people, but also their faith, resilience, and the will to endure.

We are in the season of the Holy Resurrection, and it is in this light that we remember our martyrs. For the Gospel proclaims to us: “He is not here; He is risen” (Luke 24:6). This truth gives us the strength to believe that death and evil never have the final word.

The year 1915 is not only history. It is a living memory that continues even in our own days, through the new trials and losses of our people. Yet Holy Scripture reminds us: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned” (Isaiah 43:2).

This memory does not lead us into despair, but calls us to be vigilant, to be responsible, and to remain united.

We are called to preserve our identity: through our faith, our culture, and our unity. For when we are united, we are strong, and no one can take away the “image” that we bear within us.

This day also reminds us of the first words of the Lord after the Resurrection: “Peace be with you” (John 20:19). It is this peace that guides us not to lose hope and to stand firmly in the truth.

Through the intercession of the holy martyrs of the Armenian Genocide, may the Lord grant us strength in faith, the light of hope, and the spirit of unity—to remain faithful to the truth, to be courageous, and to stand as one.

Սիրելի հայրենակիցներ,

Այսօր ապրիլի 24-ն է։

Այս օրը մենք խոնարհւում ենք Հայոց ցեղասպանութեան սուրբ նահատակների յիշատակի առաջ։ Մենք յիշում ենք մեր ժողովրդի անցած ցաւը, տառապանքը և կորուստը, բայց նաև՝ նրա հաւատը, տոկունութիւնը և յարատևելու կամքը։

Մենք գտնւում ենք սուրբ Յարութեան շրջանում, և հէնց այս լոյսի ներքոյ ենք յիշում մեր նահատակներին։ Որովհետև Աւետարանը մեզ հռչակում է. «Այստեղ չէ, այլ յարեաւ» (Ղուկաս 24․6)։ Այս ճշմարտութիւնը մեզ ուժ է տալիս հաւատալու, որ մահը և չարիքը երբեք վերջին խօսքերը չեն։

1915 թուականը միայն պատմութիւն չէ։ Այն կենդանի յիշողութիւն է, որը շարունակւում է նաև մեր օրերում՝ մեր ժողովրդի նոր փորձութիւններով և կորուստներով։ Բայց Սուրբ Գիրքը մեզ յիշեցնում է. «Եթէ անցնես ջրերի միջով, ես քեզ հետ կլինեմ, և գետերը քեզ չեն խեղդի. եթէ կրակի միջով անցնես, չես այրուի» (Եսայի 43․2)։

Այս յիշողութիւնը մեզ չի տանում դեպի յուսահատութիւն, այլ կոչ է անում՝ լինել արթուն, լինել պատասխանատու և միասնական։

Մենք կոչուած ենք պահպանելու մեր ինքնութիւնը՝ մեր հաւատքի, մեր մշակոյթի և մեր միասնականութեան միջոցով։ Որովհետև երբ մենք միասին ենք, մենք ուժեղ ենք, և ոչ ոք չի կարող խլել այն «պատկերը», որը մենք կրում ենք մեր մէջ։

Այս օրը մեզ յիշեցնում է նաև Յարութեալ Տիրոջ առաջին խօսքը. «Խաղաղութիւն ձեզ» (Յովհաննէս 20․19)։ Այդ խաղաղութիւնն է, որ մեզ առաջնորդում է՝ չկորցնելու յոյսը և կանգնելու ճշմարտութեան մէջ։

Թող Հայոց ցեղասպանութեան սուրբ նահատակների բարեխօսութեամբ Տէրը մեզ շնորհի հաւատքի ամրութիւն, յոյսի լոյս և միասնութեան ոգի՝ հաւատարիմ մնալու ճշմարտութեանը, լինելու անվախ և միասնական։ Ամէն։
