The Courage to Accept the Truth — Divine Liturgy at St Sarkis Church

On Sunday, October 4th, Bishop Hovakim Manukyan celebrated the Divine Liturgy at St Sarkis Armenian Church and delivered a sermon entitled “The Courage to Accept the Truth,” based on Mark 11:27–33.

Reflecting on the religious leaders’ questioning of Jesus’ authority, Bishop Hovakim invited the faithful to consider whether we are willing to accept the truth when it challenges our comfort, opinions, or position. He emphasised that accepting truth requires both courage and humility: the willingness to acknowledge mistakes, seek forgiveness and put faith into action.

Speaking about the challenges facing our homeland, the Armenian Church and our communities, he encouraged honest dialogue, respectful listening and practical care for those who suffer, including families displaced from Artsakh. He reminded the congregation that, even when agreement takes time, respect and compassion can begin today.

Bishop Hovakim concluded by pointing to the Cross as our source of hope, reminding the faithful that God remains with us in our wounds and calling on all to work together for justice, unity and peace.
