Christ Is With Us in the Storm

On Sunday, 30 August 2026, His Grace Bishop Hovakim Manukyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Great Britain and Ireland, celebrated the Divine Liturgy and delivered the sermon at St Yeghiche Armenian Church in London.

Reflecting on Christ’s calming of the storm, Bishop Hovakim reminded the congregation that faith does not mean that we will face no storms in life; rather, it means knowing that Christ is with us in the midst of them.

Drawing upon the words of the Armenian penitential hymn, “O Good Captain, be the refuge of my soul,” His Grace encouraged the faithful to turn to Christ in times of illness, loss, family difficulty, and uncertainty.

He also offered three important reasons for attending church each Sunday: to give thanks to God, to seek His wisdom and help, and to strengthen the spiritual temple within us. He especially encouraged families to bring their children to church, so that they may grow in faith and always know where to turn when they face life’s challenges.

At the conclusion of the service, Bishop Hovakim announced the forthcoming celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of the consecration of St Yeghiche Armenian Church. He invited the congregation to save the date - Sunday, 11 October 2026 - for the Festal Divine Liturgy and Jubilee Concert celebrating this important milestone in the life of the church.
