Armenian Genocide Commemoration in Ealing
London, 18 April 2026 — A solemn commemoration marking the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide took place at the Armenian monument in Ealing Green, at the Eternal Flames Khachkar.
The event, organised by the Armenian National Committee UK (ANC UK) and the Armenian Community Council UK (ACC UK), brought together the Ambassador of Armenia, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Members of Parliament, the Deputy Mayor, councillors, and representatives of Ealing Council, as well as faith leaders and members of the Armenian community.
Bishop Hovakim Manukyan, Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church in the United Kingdom and Ireland, attended and addressed the gathering. In his remarks, he noted that the tragedy of 1915 “is not only Armenian history, but a wound in human history,” and called for remembrance rooted in responsibility.
Quoting Armenian Genocide survivor Leon Z. Surmelian, he said: “Memory is the only homeland we can never lose.” He added that remembrance today must also speak to the present, calling for justice, truth, and the protection of those unjustly deprived of freedom.
The commemoration concluded with prayers and the affirmation:
“Eternal memory to the Holy Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide.”
