London Audience Hears About Humanitarian Work of Armenia's Sose NGO
Members of the Armenian community in London gathered at St Sarkis Armenian Church on Sunday, 28 June, to hear a presentation by Liana Sahakyan, founder and president of Sose Women's NGO, based in Goris in Armenia's Syunik Province.
Speaking at the Gulbenkian Hall, Mrs Sahakyan outlined the organisation's work over the past two decades, focusing on programmes that support women, strengthen families and provide assistance to vulnerable people across southern Armenia.
A significant part of the presentation was devoted to Sose NGO's humanitarian response following the 2020 Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) war. As thousands of Armenians were displaced, the organisation expanded its activities to provide emergency aid, distributing food, clothing, hygiene supplies,, and other essential items. According to the organisation, more than 15,000 displaced people received assistance through its relief programmes.
Mrs Sahakyan also described Sose NGO's continuing work with families affected by displacement and spoke about plans for a new community centre in Goris, which will provide additional space for educational, social and humanitarian programmes. During her return to Armenia following her UK trip, she plans to source furniture and equipment for the new facility.
The presentation was organised by the St Sarkis Parish Committee and was attended by members of the British Armenian community, who had the opportunity to ask questions about the challenges facing families in Syunik and the organisation's ongoing projects.
Bishop Hovakim Manukyan thanked Mrs Sahakyan for her presentation and encouraged continued support for humanitarian initiatives serving vulnerable communities in Armenia.
Those wishing to support the work of Sose NGO or make a donation can do so through the organisation's website, which now accepts contributions in British Pounds and other currencies.
